SWINE ‘FLU STRIKES – ASKEWS CANCELLED – SINGERS NIGHT INSTEAD

Our club guests this Thursday (26th), the Askew Sisters, have had to cancel their performance. Sadly, Emily Askew has gone down with swine ‘flu and will be laid up for a while. Our best wishes go to her for a speedy recovery, and our hopes go to her sister Hazel that she does not catch it as well.

At this short notice it is not feasible to arrange a replacement guest and we will have an extra Singers Night this Thursday instead. So all you keen singers and players out there, come on down on Thursday night. Last week’s regular Singers Night was another real corker, with plenty of great entertainment for the non-performing audience as well. Let’s try to repeat that this week. We’ll charge the usual Singers Night door price of £ 2.50 (less than a pint of beer!) or £ 1.50 concessions, ask performers to put a token £ 1 in the kitty, and kick off around 8.30pm.

If all has gone according to the Black Swan landlord’s plans, we should find a suite of new and more comfortable chairs installed in the club room on Thursday night. So there’s an added incentive for you to come along!

If you bought tickets in advance for The Askew Sisters, WeGotTickets should be getting in touch with you automatically to arrange refunds. Let me know if you have any difficulties over this. We’ll look to find a replacement date for the sisters sometime in the second half of 2010.

CHRIS WOOD & DICK GAUGHAN BOTH SOLD OUT

While I am writing, I can tell you that next Monday’s NCEM concert by Chris Wood’s Handmade Life is now completely sold out. Also fully booked now are BOTH of Dick Gaughan’s shows at the Black Swan Inn next month – the extra one on Tuesday 8th as well as the original Thursday 10th performance.

There are still plenty of tickets for Martyn Wyndham-Read’s show on 3rd December. After that there is only the club Christmas Party on 17th December, to round off a momentous year in the life of the Black Swan Folk Club

I’ll try to get one more full newsletter out this year – probably early next month
