4th March Newsflash 2012

Can I just give you a final reminder about the concert coming up this Wednesday, 7th March, at the Early Music Centre?  In a York week which has several high profile musical events, the show by Kris Drever & Eamonn Coyne was picked out as “Gig of the Week” by our local paper, The Press.  Justifiably so, I would say – as anyone who has seen Kris in action should agree - with Lau, with John McCusker & Roddy Woomble or longer ago with Fine Friday or with Kate Rusby. Likewise Eamonn, for that matter, with Celtic fusion stars Salsa Celtica.  Kris’s great voice and stylish guitar playing, Eamonn’s skilled banjo work, and a fine clutch of Drever original songs, covers and instrumental sets – it should be a great evening’s entertainment.

Puzzlingly for such a promising event, we have sold only a modest number of tickets so far. Indeed, the club faces a hefty financial loss unless there are significantly more last minute bookings and door sales.  So please consider giving yourself a musical treat by turning out for this one!

Tickets can be bought at any time on or in office hours from tomorrow morning on 01904 658338, or just come along on Wednesday evening and buy at the door.  The Box Office will be open from 7.00pm that evening and the concert begins at 7.30pm with a 30 minute opener by singer/songwriter Paula Ryan, after which there will be two full sets by Kris and Eamonn.  Tickets cost £13 full price or £11 concessions.

While I am writing, here is initial news of three further NCEM concert shows which have all been confirmed since the last full E-Newsletter:

Wednesday 4th JulyBlackbeard’s Tea Party – a reprise of last year’s successful sit-down concert with the number one local folk-rock band.  They have a busy summer lined up, with bookings at top festivals such as Cambridge, Sidmouth and Shrewsbury, but they don’t want to neglect their local fans.

Tuesday 9th OctoberMaddy Prior – a great singer we have wanted to book for ages, touring in an acoustic trio with Giles Lewin and Hannah James.

Tuesday 18th DecemberA Victorian Christmas – a seasonal special with carols and songs, stories and tunes and even a traditional mummers play.

Full details and box office arrangements to follow.
